5 Random Acts of Kindness You Can Do Today

If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, what could a Random Act of Kindness a day do? A simple gesture can brighten up someone’s day no matter how small or how insignificant it may seem. We’ve come up with 5 Random Acts of Kindness you can do today (or over the next few days) to brighten someone’s life!

Flowers for the Elderly - Who doesn’t love flowers? Carnations are an inexpensive flower to pick up from your local florist or grocery store, but they come in a variety of beautiful colors. Travel to your local nursing home and pass them out to the residents there. A pop of color in the common rooms or in their living quarters would make them smile!

Hidden Book Notes - For this random act of kindness, use a colorful notecard or piece of paper and write a quick message to the future owner of the book. You can say things about why this book is special to you (no spoilers!) and why they’re lucky to have chosen this book. Or, jot down some compliments such as “You’re an amazing person, enjoy the adventure!”

Vending Machine Hero - Do you work or go to school in an area with vending machines? Tape an envelope with a dollar or two to the vending machine with the note “Vending Fairy, this one is on us!” Replace it a few times during the week if you’re feeling super generous!

Dessert for Emergency Responders - Head over to your local police or fire station with tasty treats for the first responders. They can be homemade or store bought, but attach a note thanking them for their service. As an added bonus, dress up as a fairy or superhero to deliver your goodies!

Reading Rainbow - Love reading? Volunteer at your local library, bookstore, or homeless shelter for children’s reading hour. The gift of words can be inspiring!
