Nothing in this world exists without its opposite, yet we as humans have a tendency to cling to identities and are reluctant to allow in the opposites. It’s natural, we want to stay with what we know and what is comfortable. Identities and groups make us feel a sense of belongingness.
You may be an extremely extroverted person who loves to be doing things all the time, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need alone time to reset sometimes. Maybe you’re passionate about living a healthy lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean you can never go out for a fun night on the town or indulge in your favorite dessert.
Take a moment to reflect upon the categories you put yourself into. Know that it doesn’t have to be just one way or the other. In fact, throwing yourself into one category and setting those expectations for yourself is what leads to imbalance, stress, and even burnout. Allow yourself to find balance, and know that your balance is unique to you. No one else can decide it for you, and it cannot be compared to anyone else’s. You have your own personal mix of what works best for you, and because you identify as one trait or another doesn’t mean you have to be that way 100% of the time.
