Sore Throat Soother
If you are sick and have a sore throat, this little elixir will boost your immune system back to health. Vegans, swap out the honey for maple syrup.
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
1/3 cup lemon juice
2 inches fresh ginger root, sliced
1 ½ cups filtered water
2T raw honey, (or maple syrup)
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
In a small saucepan, cook the vinegar, lemon juice, ginger root, and water over low heat for about 10 minutes. Heat to your preferred temperature for drinking. Strain into a mug, add the honey and cayenne. Drink immediately, while hot, so you don’t lose the medicinal benefits.
Great after a big meal, this elixir can also be used to prevent, or lessen, an upset stomach.
2 cups filtered water
1 inch piece fresh ginger root, sliced thin
½ tsp fennel seeds
½ tsp cardamom powder
1 Tblsp dried lemon balm
1 tsp dried orange peel
Bring water to boil in a teakettle. Place all the herbs in a teapot or glass jar. Pour the boiling water over herbs. Steep for 5 minutes. Strain and serve. Add more water for a second brew.
